Always on the ball

It's been a long while since I posted anything and would like to appease any of my friends who might be inclined to think that I'm no longer on the ball. We are into our fouth week of school and already, it seems like a few months. The books are as thick as they come and the chapters a mile long-good thing I invested in a pair of reading glasses this time around. Furthermore, other extra-curricular activites (not those that happen home) have had me feeling sore and less inclined to write. Nevertheless such feelings have temporary effects. My pen still has black ink and I believe it's blood is still way mightier than that of the pious of martyrs.

There's so much to talk about-Nuff tings ah gwan! From the simultaneous wanton slaying of three men to the passage of several storms in the region, my ink could be smeared on paper in patterns that reflect my deepest sentiments about such issues. Instead I have chosen the alternative path of sound reasoning and critical thinking. Bad things don't just happen to good people. Just because someone's history is plotted in red does not mean he has to suffer such atrocities. Not because disaster hasn't dealt me its cards mean that I'm right to critise others who feel uncomfortable by their less than perfect evacuation which is meant to protect their very lives. Life can be funny, random and ironic at the same time......with such words I depart from this post! oh..and I'm still on the ball

Back in School

School has reopened; second week and nothing seem unusual. I'm having trouble making my daily schedule due to TBA classes. Some courses are TBA for teachers also. I've been around for five semesters and the same thing happens over and over. It will not be until very late into the second week that everything will fall in place. I can say that I have gotten used to the typical uncertainty which characterizes the semester's begging. Textbooks are sky-high. I am totally dumbfounded by the high prises that recent editions fetch when they only contain a few more colorful pages and differently worded problems when compared to their earlier counterparts. As if to add insult to injury, some professors only accept the most recent book publications. One would think that those highly educated men and women would at least display some level of common sense when deciding on what book to use. I am tempted to think that they punish us with intent, or probably they think students are all rich and well-off. I'm getting too passionate about this subject matter and I will end on this note. All students, have a wonderful and productive semester.

The Holidays are Over

Its the eve of school's reopening and I'm still not ready to face the books.....wait a while, I don't even have any books!!!This time is no different from prior times; feel like I need more rest and gosh, I'm just totally unready!! It seems as if the groove of summer had me caught too deep within.
All I got to do now is look on the bright side of things. Two weeks into school and books, paper and pen are gonna be as much a part of me as my very beating heart! What did you say...I just love the movie..come on you people!!!!!!!! All jokes aside, I'm really aiming high for this semester. I want all A's and thats what I'm gonna work toward. To my fellow St Lucians and all Gramblingites, all the best in the fall!!!!!

Back ah Yard

It's been a few days since I wrote anything. I'm quite sure that my brief absence rendered the heart of at least one of my readers founder. After my little excursion to Houston, I am left tired and in slight discomfort-I guess that explains the length of this post. The pictures are gonna make up it anyway........... I'm out.

Life-Is it fair?

Bad things happen to good people. It rains on both the just and unjust. The good is hardly ever mentioned but the bad is often dwelt upon. Justice against an evil deed is often not speedily executed. Hard, cold facts about life which no one can yet alter. No one; rich or poor, young or old, Indian or white, can say that his or her life has been lived without one of those universal truths manifesting its paradoxical influence every now and again. So overwhelming is the influence that people are often led to question the fairness of life.
We exist in a world where the past and future both resemble and contrast each other. The resemblance is seen mostly in the acts of men, chiefly so the act of war. Why did America invade Iraq and Afghanistan when history has thoroughly taught us that war is not the answer? The results though shocking are no different form earlier wars; wide scale destruction and the untimely death of many, including civilians. What about the Canadian, tender in age, on his own business yet brutally murdered for no apparent reason. Shocking but this is nothing new. What about those people who live so maliciously but yet prosper in every way, whilst the good man is left to question his meager lot? You live your life with a clean record which hardly gets any recognition, then you make one mistake and it becomes the talk of the town; never was there anyone worse. Or maybe you can remember the brutal rape/murder in saltibus; almost a decade later, still no perpetrator. All these are shocking but nothing new.
Whats different then? Nothing really, the only thing that changed is the magnitude of events both man made and acts of God. There exist weapons that could vaporise all life off the face of the earth in an instance. Now thats some new shit! I am left to wonder; wouldn't all the money squandered in research and development of such weapons benefit us more if it was used to feed and educate those poor people in Africa and Ashia? Why are our leaders so interested in taking life instead of giving? Oh, maybe they're preparing to fry an huge comet which dare come on a collision course with earth. Everyday we fight the acts of God. Hurricanes are now more fierce than ever. Earthquakes frequent our plates and leave massive destruction to property and life in their wake. Even Tsunamis are recking havoc upon us. Most of the victims are poor innocent folks;babies, women and those riped in age. Life is so unfair huh? Not totally so. Draw attention to the very existence of life. Life is never done. Life continues after every jolt, after ever shake. We still have food to eat. This very breath is so new yet so old; humans have been doing it for centuries. The rain though it waters the garden of the unjust still blesses the just with life. The aim of life is not to hate but appreciate. Love your enemy. Pray for the wicked and though life is........., treat everyone with fairness.

One year or a day older?

Having just recently(yesterday) celebrated a birthday, I am left to wonder: am I really one year or one day older? Many people share contrasting views on this matter. However most tend to favor the year old view, simply because on that date, you can officially assume the new age figure. Upon further examination, the the year consist of three hundred sixty five days ( and a quarter to be more precise) thus your special day completes the count. This second point has been widely used to disqualify people who claim their new age figure prematurely(sometimes a couple months prior) of which I am guilty.
Lets gravitate our attention to the less popular day old view;which I tend to favor. It's only logical to say that I am only a day older today. We live in a chronological world of minute increments. A year is made up of the number of days mentioned above and might i stress, individual days. After one comes two and so on. In a broader perspective, this can be compared to a flight of stairs. A complete assertion consists of treading all the treads(no pun intended) from one point to the next. Age is no different; the days have to be fulfilled one by one.Everyday seen, is one more rise completed in the staircase of life.
The question remains; one year or one day older? Well, it depends solely on our individual opinions. We each harbor our own outlook on the chronology of age or life, whether by increments of days or years.

Summer time-The G or the city

It's summer time once again and my first in Grambling. The heat is so excruciating that my air conditioning has become redundant. By now, one would have expected an investment into a fan or some other cooling apparatus; people, it's August and I'm still singing the blues about the heat, I can even go as far as saying that some level of acquaintance has been met. It's not that bad after all. The trees give me their shade of which I am privileged to have.
Imagine having to bare this kind of heat in a heavily populated town or city synonymous with concrete jungle. A place where those on the extreme ends of the age spectrum are so vulnerable. The poisonous carbon monoxide emissions join forces with CO2 gases and conspire against the humans to torture them and ensure that their demise is a slow and painful one. The traverse of one city block by foot is made so arduous that the bus becomes man's best friend. Ahhh...and as if that was not enough, talk about those buildings decked in glass whose sole responsibility is it to reflect the sun's rays upon anyone who dares cross its path. With the convince of city life comes the inconvenience of summer in the city. I chose well, I decided to stay in grambling.
